Father Whelihan Award

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE FATHER WHELIHAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The scholarship was established in 1972 to honour Fr. James Whelihan, a legendary teacher, coach and key individual in the original establishment of the CSHSAA. 4 scholarships of $2,000 each are awarded each year, to one male and one female student athlete in each of the Calgary Separate and Public school systems. The scholarship must be used towards the cost of a post secondary program.

Athletic Directors at CSHSAA member schools submit student athlete nominations, one male and one female per school, to the Father Whelihan Selection Committee. The Committee then contacts the nominees and has them complete an award scholarship application package.

The Scholarships are awarded having regard to i) academic achievement, ii) athletic achievement, iii) school citizenship, leadership and community involvement and iv) need; in order of importance.
